Welcome To D3D – The Incredible World Of Casting Resins
Resins
Apr 8, 2022
If you function in the world of jewellery, then you would know all about jewellery resins, and if you are vaguely familiar with them, then you would know that this a world where intricate perfection is always needed. When you are creating three dimensional moulds for the formation of stunning jewellery, the quality of the actual resin is of utmost importance. You will need resins that allow you to create casts that will give precision and consistency in dimensions.
It was our search of such resins and the lack of thereof that we realised that we needed to step up and create what we needed!
And thus, D3D Resins was born!
The birth of D3D casting resins
Let’s start with something fundamental – what exactly are casting resins?
Casting resins, or direct casting wax resins or castable wax resins are basically wax-based materials, that are most commonly used in 3D printing. These have been used for several purposes, including for the creation of parts of dental fittings, jewellery and other industrial applications.
This kind of resin normally has a small percentage of wax and that allows for the precision capturing of all the fine details, which no ash. The prints that emerge are actually strong enough to be used for prototyping or even be used as a base for fitting, right before production.
In the year 2019, after researching the market and assessing a wide range of direct casting resins, we were not able to find one that met our expectations. We wanted a resin that had minimal shrinkage and would provide consistent dimensions. Given that we ourselves have had more than 2 decades of experience in 3D printing, we realised that it might be up to us to create a good quality resin.
Within a year, D3D Resins rose to become one of the top-selling direct casting resin in the UAE. Our resins were being used across the jewellery industry, and were being used to a variety of jewellery styles including diamond, Cuban chains, Arabic, Indian, and Turkish.
By 2023, based on the demands of our customers, we developed the direct casting resins, DC6823 & DC444. Although jewellery resins are known to give precision printing, this was in a league of its own. Capable of ultra-high definition printing, this resin can achieve gaps as fine as 0.06mm, between chain links. This, however, will be dependent on the printer that is being used.
What makes D3D direct casting resins so special?
If you talk to someone who utilises wax-like resins, they will tell you that they are constantly plagued by the same kind of problems:
The castings fail – they are either not precise enough, or they are not strong enough
The dimensional accuracy that is so important for items like jewellery is not accurate enough
There is a high amount of gold loss in finishing direct casting
The shrinkage is either really high or extremely uneven
Finally, there is the high cost that is associated with the wax printers, heads, spares and of course, the wax itself
These are all problems that D3D Resins is meant to tackle – our resins are made from the finest quality materials that are sourced directly from Europe. In addition to that, we also meet all the requisite ISO standards.
The benefits of using D3D 3D printer resins
Now, let’s take a look at the real benefits of using our resins:
Casts like wax – Unlike other resins, ours can cast exactly like wax, which means that there is no need for investing in any special dental investment powder, elongated burnout cycles or even high temperatures like 830°C.
Ash-free burnout – Because our resins are wax-like, their burn out is also ash-free. When used with our burnout furnace, there is complete combustion. The casting quality is also 95% like wax, but with greater strength and accuracy.
Easy printing - We also provide you with printing parameters for most 3D printers that are on offer in the market today. In case required, we also provide online technical support on the parameter/profile setting of your 3D printer, to ensure that they work perfectly for D3D Resins.
Easy shrinkage – What makes our casting resins superior is the fact that they have under 1% shrinkage and you can be assured of precise dimensional accuracy that is truly uniform.
Cost effective – Our resins are also really easy on the pocket, because they can be printed even on low-cost high-speed Chinese LCD printers, which means that you need not invest in any high-end wax-based 3D printers.
Here’s what we offer at D3D Resins:
If you are in the market for the best resins for jewellery, then this is where you need to come, because we bring to you high quality options. Here is a sneak peek into what we have to offer:
DCDNO Yellow / DCDNR Orange – Our highest selling resin, these are universal resins which can be used for all kinds of jewellery designs; right from filigree wires to solid men's rings. Although the formulation is similar, the DCDNO tends to cast a little better but if you want a sharper print, like that in diamond, then DCDNR would be the better option. With top casting quality and easy burnout, this resin promises you less than 1% shrinkage and can use normal investment powder.
Green: DCGC / DC369-3 / DCGCU – This family of universal resins is suitable for all types of jewellery. While DCGC works only on LCD printers, DCGCU can work on high-speed printers like Novafab, Protospeed & RapidShape and can be used on LCD printers as well. The DC369-3 is ideal for the wax setting of stones. Yet again, you get top casting quality, with easy burnout and shrinkage of less than 1%.
Red: DC6823 – The latest in the world of innovative resins, this was created especially for micro pave and tight chains with minimal gap between 2 links. This is the resin you will want to pick when you want to achieve gaps between links of chains or bracelets, that are as low as 0.06 mm or 0.08mm, depending on your printer. With ultra sharp edges, you continue get the same benefits of top casting quality, easy burnout, less than 1% shrinkage and the usage of normal investment powder.
If you are on the lookout for high quality ash free casting resins for jewellery, then you know that you need to come to us!
